We are specialists in early project planning phases, including FEL-0, 1 and 2. Picking the right project to invest in and develop is paramount to success. Whether it is a major new energy development, an acquisition, or even just a small debottlenecking project deploying capital thoughtfully without waste moves companies ahead. In our view, the project definition including the selection of the most appropriate key performance elements can make all the difference between success and failure. Our people have extensive backgrounds in early project planning, documentation, and cost estimation helping our clients achieve success.

Our services include design reviews, technical oversight, technical checking of design for engineering companies, constructors and end users. Our personnel are competent in design of facilities and their elements, code interpretation, HAZOP, HAZID, ORA, and value engineering methods.

We excel at the front end of each project, working with each concept to find best value scenarios. We take these best concepts, can perform Pre-FEED, FEED and support detailed design.

We are always excited to participate in technology piloting. Our team has been part of many pilots in bitumen and oil recovery, water treatment, minerals processing and other areas. From small scale field units to step ups we can take you through our process to achieve success. We plan scale-up strategies and help our clients troubleshoot inevitable scale up issues during their journey from lab to field to commercial.

During concept selection and following phases we are adept in the building of cost estimates, cost models, and economic planning tools for our clients’ decision-making needs. We can perform forensic-type post-design and post-construction cost reviews and analyses. We can allocate costs to technical decisions and assist clients in the cost-benefit analysis of design features, needs and wants.

We build cost-based technical decision tools. These tools allow clients to make facilities and development decisions with more fulsome knowledge of how these designs affect CAPEX, OPEX and sustaining costs. We can operate these models for our clients or train our clients to use and modify these tools for internal use. We have an excellent track-record of data-mining and using in-plant data to solve process design issues.

At Skoki, we are always excited to be part of the conversion of new technologies from the R&D stage into commercial technologies. We have a unique approach that balances the need to succeed technically under field environments with the inevitable financial constraints place in development budgets. We have worked inside some of the world’s largest firms expanding the portfolio of energy technologies available to develop their resource holdings as well as the smallest of start-ups.

In commercialization, scale up often reveals challenges not foreseen in smaller scales. Scaled up technology can be challenged by heat transfer, mass transfer, chemical kinetic changes, waste stream volumes, and shipping dimensions not predicted at smaller scales. These are familiar issues to us at Skoki and we are adept at working with our clients to resolve these.

Our team has an outstanding history in SAGD facilities development, CHOPS, slop treatment, water treatment, alternate oil sand recovery technologies including radio-frequency recovery.

Our team has global water treatment engineering and troubleshooting experience with produced frac water and produced water treatment, de-oiling, softening, silica removal, and steam generation. Other water related projects encompass food and beverage, aquaponics and hydroponics, mining water treatment, biological groundwater treatment, environmental water management (engineered wetland, water flood schemes) and water disposal. Working through the technology review and selection along with environmental guidelines and regulatory requirements to meet or exceed expectations ensuring the design is fit for purpose and based a comprehensive review of the water quality and compatibility.

Our history is broad and deep in heavy oil, extra heavy oil, bitumen, and asphalt. We have extensive experience in SAGD, CSS, CHOPS, solvent processes, radio frequency processes, all for recovery. In plant, we have engineered units for separation, treatment, stabilization, slop treatment, shipment, and transmission. We are familiar with, and can address your, flow assurance issues.

We work with investors, reservoir analysts, and business leaders performing facilities capacity reviews for transactions. We can provide replacement cost estimates. We can forecast buildout costs, perform scenario modelling and work with inspection teams helping to assess present facility conditions for determining current value.

We have provided engineering for several projects in the geothermal sector including projects in BC and Alberta. Our expertise in heat and mass transfer is assisting the development in this sector as many former oil and gas firms look to broaden their energy mix. Many targets of recent geothermal firms are in lower temperature assets with inherent efficiency, location and infrastructure challenges.
